Our History
Leesburg United Methodist Church has long had a heart for early childhood education. During the early 1960’s, public kindergarten was not offered in Loudoun County. By 1963 a group of mothers had organized a kindergarten that met in the rooms that now house the church nursery. Construction on the education building that houses the current preschool began in 1965. The planning for early childhood Christian Education is evidenced in the ground level classrooms of the building, designed with large sunny classrooms and child-sized bathrooms. Upon completion of the new building, the kindergarten program was moved and expanded to fill the new space. When public Kindergarten was offered in the 1980’s, Leesburg United Methodist Preschool focused on a preschool for three- and four-year-olds. In the fall of 2012 Great Beginnings Preschool was born with a new program and curriculum. The program has now been expanded to include two, two-day classes for two-year-olds.
Today we celebrate over 50 years of Christian love. We thank the many wonderful teachers and directors who have loved and taught our children over the years. We also thank the congregation for their prayers and support and the opportunity to instill Christian love and growth at the very earliest of ages.
